visit picsHere comes November and hence time for displaying new stock, catering to new weather trends, and anticipating and meeting new profit targets.  However, before you go elbowing your way to the excitement of setting and meeting new targets, you will have to make one important decision: end of season sales. Depending on how well you have managed your stock throughout the season, such decisions could be panicky knee-jerk reactions resulting in heavy discounts in a bid to get rid of stacks of out-of-season stocks, or they could be well-thought out strategies for end of season sales.
Good strategies require one important pre-requisite: smart stock management. Candela has many features that help in effective inventory management. For example, the sales reports of different shops can tell you which items are selling more at a particular shop and you can then transfer stock accordingly. Candela also provides you with the option to generate automatic inventory levels based on sales of a particular shop during a specific time range. Moreover, shops can send timely requests for fast selling items. Plus, stock consolidation feature in Candela provides you with the option to periodically consolidate items that are spread over various shops but with minimum number of available sizes.

1. Now you can keep track of the history of changes made on all configuration screens (introduced in Release 11007)
Four new columns are added on every configuration screen: Entered by; Entered Date; Edited By; and Edited Date.
These new columns will help you track down history of the configuration changes by date and person. 

2. Now all Loyalty Club invoices can be easily identified (Introduced in Release 11007)
When the Loyalty Club functionality is on in your system, all loyalty club invoice types (invoices that show points and point redemption) on the Invoice Page Set-Up screen will have LC initials.

3. Now you can change PIN code of Loyalty Club members (Introduced in Release 11007)
PIN codes of Loyalty Club members can be changed on Customer Club>Member Card Activation screen. Here you have the option to either let the system change it automatically or you can change it manually and enter a PIN code of your choice.
For auto change of PIN code, go to: Customer Club>Member Card Activation>Auto Change PIN Code. Select the Customer and click Change PIN Code button.
There is another tab on this screen: View/Change PIN Code Manually. Functions of this screen are right based. To give rights to either view or change PIN code manually, go to: Security>Group Rights; from User Group, select the group you want to give rights to; from Form Categories, select Customer Club, expand Customer Club; expand Member Card Activation; check the checkboxes: Show PIN code & Change PIN Code Manually. Save

4. Nowthe system will tell you about the products for which inventory levels are not set (Introduced in Release 11007)
Since new products are being entered in the system all the time, it sometimes becomes difficult to track the products for which no inventory level is set. You can now not only see such products but can also set inventory levels for them on a single screen.  Go to:  Configuration>Product Re-Order Quantity

 Select the Line Item; check the checkbox Items with No Inventory Level; click Generate Report; the next screen will show the products for which inventory levels are not set.
Here you can also set inventory levels for each product.


5. Now the Daily Cash Flow screen has two more security checks (introduced in release 11007)
Two fields on the Daily Cash Flow screen, Submitted to Bank & Submitted to HO, are now right based.  Only the user having the rights to make these entries will be able to do so. To give rights, go to: Security>Group Rights; Select the Group; from Form Categories, select Shop Activities; expand Shop Activities and expand Daily Cash Flow. Check the checkboxes: Submitted to Bank and Submitted to HO. Save

  • You can check stock summary of all shops in one go in E-02 report. E-02 shows not only the stock summary but also complete movement for a particular day.

  • D-27 Report shows the items for which assortments are broken for a particular shop.

  • D-31 (Inventory Ageing Report) shows which products are not sold for the selected number of days at the selected shop.

  • You can use C-41 (Sales analysis report) to check which sizes are selling more than the others.

  • You can use D-08 (Shop Inventory Matrix report) to check which sizes are out of stock or less in stock

Thou shall not leave your STR open. When the products are received at shops, the STR should reflect that and STR status should be received. The STRs which are in adjustment should be closed at the earliest.

  • When the STR Block Adjustment checkbox is checked on the Configuration>System Configuration> Product/STR  screen, the receiving shop has to receive the entire quantity dispatched from the dispatch shop. This means, the stock adjustment feature will be disabled and no quantity can be returned to the dispatch shop.
But if this check box is unchecked, adjustment feature will work and the receiving shop can change the quantity at the time of receiving STR.
This option is applicable only for ’Enterprise’ versions

  • When STR Auto Process checkbox is checked on the Configuration>System Configuration> Product/STR screen, new STRs will be automatically dispatched and received at the respective shops.
If it is unchecked, both dispatch and receiving shops will have to dispatch and receive the STR manually.
This option is applicable only if both dispatch and receive shops are ‘Non-replicated.’

  • When STR Auto Dispatch checkbox is checked on the Configuration>System Configuration> Product/STR screen, the STR will be automatically dispatched at the selected shop. The receive shop, however, will have to receive the STR manually.

The option is applicable only if the dispatch shop is a non-replicated shop.

First, I want you to know Candela has made my pharmacy business hassle free. I appreciate all the good work you constantly put in to make Candela the software for Retail.
As you know, in pharmacy business we sell in pack and, sometimes, also in units. Is there a way that can help me keep track of stock and sales in both packs and units? For example, if I have 20 packs of tablets in my stock, I also want to know about the number of tablets. Can you help me?

Of course, we can help you. That’s what we are here for. You can easily check your inventory and sales in both units and packs.
To be able to do so you have to make one important configuration. Go to: Configuration>System Configuration>General tab.
Check the box “Show Pack Quantity’
Update. Log off and log in again.
Now to see inventory in Packs, go to: Reports>D-Stock Reports>D-07 Shop Inventory Report

Select the line item and Generate Report

 The Quantity column of the report will show Pack quantity.
To see inventory in units, check D-26 report.
Select the line item and Generate Report. The quantity column will show inventory in Units.
To see sales in packs, check reports: C-30 and C-11 the Net Sales Quantity column in C-30 and Quantity column in C-11 will show sales in pack.
To see sales in units, you can check all Sales reports other than C-11 and C-30

Data Science Machine

Researchers at MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) claim to have designed an algorithm that, they say, will complement human intelligence by approximating human intuition.
The algorithm will use raw data sets to come up with predictions about human behavior. For example, it will be able to predict, with much less time and manpower, about the factors that would turn a customer into a repeat buyer.
This ‘data science machine’ has so far beaten 615 of the 906 human teams it came up against.  Will the ‘algorithm’ someday be a substitute for data scientists? The future will tell.
Antimicrobial plastic:  This seems to have a lot of teeth!

Andreas Herrmann and colleagues at the University of Groningen have, seemingly, found a cure for tooth decay. They have developed an antimicrobial plastic that can kill bacteria on contact and is not harmful for human cells.
Dental surgeons can use it by combining it with traditional dental resin polymers and putting the mixture into a 3 D printer to create artificial teeth, braces, etc.
But before you start thinking that you are armed to the teeth against tooth decay, pause. Not so quick.
 Experiments are still being carried out to determine how safe and effective these supper teeth are over the longer term, and how will brushing impact it.

Face forward

Facebook has set its face against state-sponsored attacks on Facebook users’ accounts. If the network suspects that a user is being subjected to a state-sponsored data breach, it will alert the user by issuing pop up warning notification. The user will then be instructed to turn on’ Login Approvals’ to further protect the privacy of her/his account.
The login approval security check will allow the user to prevent others from logging into their account.
According to Alex Stamos, Facebook’s Chief Security Officer, since state sponsored attacks tend to be more invasive and dangerous, the company has decided to trigger extra warnings to the users whose accounts are invaded by state actors.
On the face of it this looks cool. But then absolute power can have its repercussions. No?
